Boxing day shopping sucks.

As I’m sure you’re all aware yesterday was Boxing Day. It’s a day that’s every shoppers dream, there are adverts with claims of 70% discounts and huge red sale signs plastered over every shop window. You wake up the crack of dawn, despite feeling ill after eating tons at Christmas in the hope that you’ll find that one special item to make it all worthwhile…
In a perfect world, maybe. In reality it’s anything but. I’ll spare you all the gory details, I think it’s better that way but what I will say is I’M NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SHOPPING ON BOXING DAY AGAIN.  Ha, I laugh because I said that last year and yet still found myself waiting for 20 minutes this year to buy a skirt from River Island that I’m not entirely convinced I like (it was for £15 from £30 I couldn’t resist). Here’s the thing about boxing day, you feel pressured to shop because you know everyone else is and don’t want to miss out on all the latest deals. Then you get to the shop and it’s packed to bursting, clothes are scattered all over the floor and everyone’s out for themselves. Then you try to find the changing room to try on what you’ve just picked up only to find they’re closed for the day. You gamble and wait in line next to an annoying old woman who tells you she’s buying clothes for her wedding then proceeds to recount her whole life story *rolls eyes*. Then you purchase you item where you meet an irritated cashier who seems to think it’s your fault she has to work on Boxing day. Finally, you return home only to realise half of the things you bought are junk, the other half don’t fit and you can’t return your clothes until next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. I will not be participating in the Boxing Day sales next year.

Why are all the best shows on around Christmas time?

Why are all the best shows on around Christmas time? I think it’s actually one of my favourite things about Christmas, the shows. I watched back to back Christmas movies yesterday one was called Mrs Miracle which was surprisingly good. It’s basically about this old lady who is all “magical” and visits homes that need her help, usually homes with single parents in need of love. There’s a sequel which isn’t as good but hey, it’s set around Christmas time and gets you in the mood so it’s awesome. I also watched Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory (the original) which was awesome…however I stumbles across this thing on the net and it hasn’t been the same since…
What’s your favourite Christmas movie? Let me know…

H&M girl with the dragon tattoo collection

Anyone seen H&M’s “girl with the dragon tattoo” collection? It’s pretty cool, the clothes have that androgynous tough-edge that everyone seems to be wearing lately. The line has attracted some controversy lately when fellow blogger Natalie Karneef claimed the line “glamorised” rape…not too sure I agree with that one there. I think it’s a cool line, I like the pieces as an outfit, but I think they look a bit plain separately (although I’m aware that’s what most people love about it).
On a side note, has anyone noticed that H&M clothes are AWLAYS wrinkled? I can never wear newly purchased clothing without ironing it first and it’s not just in the shops it’s the same with deliveries. Wrinkled. They need to work on that.

Christmas present ideas for daddy dearest

Is it just me or are dads the hardest to shop for? They really are, honestly I spent ages trying to work out what to get my dad, and if your dad’s anything like mine he’ll let you know when he hates your prezzie. Need suggestions of what to get? Here are a few of my ideas.

1.      A cardigan, it’s cold and there’re lots of cardigans out there. Stick to neutral colours to give it a simple stylish look.

2.   A wallet! If there’s anything dads are good for it’s giving you money right? So why not make sure he hands over the wonga (who actually says wonga, I just remembered it from the advert) in style. Here a lovely brown stich wallet I found from Burton for a mere £12.

3.      A tie, let’s face it,it’s the fall back item. You can never go wrong with a tie. Again I must mention that Burton make lovely ones.

4.      A satchel, these are still in this season so shop around if you’ve got a bit of cash to splash.
5.      A suit shirt (again, quality is key here so this is only for the very wealthy *cough * suckers). Try T.M Lewin, you can get to the website here.

So here are my ideas, they’re a little generic but it’s the thought that counts after all! If all else fails, you could always get him some socks.

Greek anyone?

Did anyone watch Greek? I know it’s no longer showing but there was a character on the show, Ashley, played by Amber Stevens, who really loved to accessorise. I was watching it today when I realised I really don’t wear that many accessories. Naturally, I went shopping and found this gorgeous pair of feather earrings from Miss Selfridge for just £8.50! Result!

Review: Duffle coats!

Duffle coats are bang on trend this season. They’re everywhere, no matter where you look you’re certain to see these cuddly coats on the high street. But who sells the best coats you ask? Don’t worry FTFB is here to answer all your questions…

Berry Long Borg duffle Miss selfridge £45
I have this coat, and I must say I like it. The colour pops and it has a hood, which is handy for the rainy London weather. The only negative is that the fit isn’t perfect, which means it can look bulky if you’re not careful and often I find myself wearing it with the coat open (which doesn’t really make sense in the freezing cold). Still, it’s mainly great so I’ll give it a 9/10

Red fur hood duffle coat Dorothy Perkins £55.20
This coat has a great fit, I remember trying it on in the shop and thinking its shape and style looked awesome… unfortunately, the colour is absolutely revolting. It’s really bright I real life and looks a little cheap. Not a fan. 4/10

Snaffle Duffle coat Warehouse £50

This coat is really cool, it’s not my personal style but I love its unique take on the traditional duffle coat. It has a sort of wet-look heavy suede look that can be styled with biker boots to give it that rocker edge. 10/10

Review!!!!: Pixie lott Lipsy range

Now I’ll be honest, I’m not really a fan of “celebrity” fashion lines because more than often they consist of unoriginal ideas, poor designs and have ridiculous over inflated price tags. However, I LOVE pixie’s Lipsy range.  The price isn’t great, but it’s cheaper than a lot of the other celebrity lines out there and has some really cute statement pieces that you can mix and match with other high street items.  You can check the fashion line here.
One of my favourite items from the range is the Cropped Boucle Jacket and shorts. It’s really trendy and reminds me of something Blair Waldorf would wear (love her) but at £55 for a small cropped jacket…I’m not totally sold.  We are in a recession after all.
Overall, I’d five the range 8/10
It’s stylish, but a little pricy.

When storms come you have to live by faith...

I’m being philosophical again here so bare with me.  Have you ever realised how easy it is to be positive about life when times are great, only to feel awful when times get difficult? It’s certainly a common occurrence in my life and I’m sure others experience similar things also. So readers, I’ve decided that starting from now (sod waiting till New Year) we should always keep faith when times get difficult. Whether you’re religious and follow God or not I feel it’s important to remember that, regardless of how difficult things get, there is always something good on the horizon.

What? No gossip girl?

I’ve just found out Gossip Girl isn’t showing on ITV2 today. Just like that. No word of warning, nothing. I am beyond annoyed now, just as it was getting good (the whole Liz Hurley-Chace Crawford fake relationship storyline) and now we have to wait till God knows when. Maybe next time.
But do you know what’s really annoying? I was planning on blogging about the fashion on tonight’s show, seeing as how they always look AMAZING. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

p.s. anyone know when it’s back on?

I'm so tired my eyes hurt.

Ever had that feeling when you’re so tired your eyes hurt?  I have that now. I lay in bed this morning trying to come up with excuses of why I couldn’t come to school; headache sore throat attacked by bees etc. Then I remembered that my history essay, that was due in last week, absolutely MUST be handed in today and so consequently am stuck here blogging from one of the computers in stuffy smells-like-dead-cats computer room at school.
What am I going to do today? I have no idea. I’m boring so it’ll probably involve reading Wuthering heights for English and trying to squeeze in some shopping in between.  That reminds me, I really need to buy a new pair of gloves my current ones are (let’s face it) gross and it’s absolutely freezing in London.  I’ll try and keep you posted on my finds.

Flats, the shoes, not the tasteless diet coke

Is it just me, or are flats given a bad rep? They’re comfortable, stylish and can be worn on pretty much any occasion, providing you have the right style. I think flat shoes are awesome so I’ve decided to spread the “flats love” by listing a few of my favs below. Enjoy! Oh and don’t hesitate to recommend me any of your flat suggestions, any excuse to shop...

This bag is so chic! The colours are really cute, however it’s a little on the pricy side...

A night with Beyonce

Just watched a night with Beyonce, one word, AMAZING. I love her, honestly that show was so great she is truly an outstanding performer. ITV have really pulled it out of the bag this time, it was really exceptional. When I watch people like this I always wonder how they got to where they are, surely everyone has the potential to make a difference in the world some way or another? I really hope we all get the chance to do just that (sorry for the philosophical speech) but I’m sure you’ll all be telling me about the amazing things you’ve done in the future. I hope I’ll be doing the same.

REVIEW: jeans!!

I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest fan of jeans.  I’m extremely picky and tend to only go for the skinny/kick flare styles; however I’ve decided to broaden my horizons and review some of the high streets best and worst.

Skinny Jeans: New Look £9.99
These are probably some of the best skinny jeans around, they actually look skinny on me (I have chicken legs don’t judge) and are super cheap. Result! The only problem is...they’re really tight. Honestly, I almost had a seizure trying to squeeze a pair on.
9/10

Flare slim fit Jeans: H&M £19.99
LOVE THESE!!!! I haven’t got a bad word to say about them, they’re stylish, fit perfectly, and are a change from the usual “skinny jean syndrome” everyone seems to have. Try it with a pair of brown boots and a promise, you’ll look ace.
10/10

Skinny Jeans: Primark £8
Awful.  Absolutely awful.  To be fair, they’re only £8 and I guess you get what you pay for, but these jeans are quite literally disposable. You wear them once, and have to bin them, never to be seen again. What’s more Primark don’t have an online site, so I can’t post any pictures. I feel bad because I am a huge Primark fan...I just hate their jeans.
2/10

The four letter word we all love to hear...

I'm so sorry I haven't blogged all day! I was incredibly busy with school, work...shopping (I know I have a problem). Whilst shopping I noticed something...everything is on sale! Remember that cape I loved that I posted about (it was either Monday or Tuesday I can’t quite remember) well it’s from Dorothy Perkins and it’s gone down from £69 to £48.30, there’s 30% off EVERYTHING!!!!

You can’t imagine my surprise after being so depressed from not having enough money to buy it only to walk in to the store surrounded by a mass of red sale labels everywhere. I’m so pleased.  I just had to tell you guys because the sale’s for a limited time only. As bad as it is, the speculated “recession” is really great for us students who literally spend our pay check on clothes and make up as everything is cut price. Sigh. It’s like boxing day’s come early.
